Shirley Dowdy will be leading sessions in Centering Prayer during Advent.
Already many Christmas decorations are up and retailers have started their sales. In the bustle of shopping and parties, it is easy to forget that the ancient liturgical season, Advent, precedes Christmas. Advent begins on Sunday, November 29, and continues until Christmas. It is a time of quiet preparation and waiting for the manifestation of God.
One way to live Advent is to practice centering prayer. Centering prayer is a simple method which leads to contemplative prayer. Contemplative prayer has a long history in Christianity. It is a deep encounter with God in silence, practiced by Jesus himself.
The Psalmist tells us, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Come and learn about centering prayer with Shirley on the first three Tuesdays of Advent on December 1, 8, and 15, at 1:30 p.m. She has been leading classes in centering prayer for many years. Come, let her help you deepen your personal relationship with God during Advent and “prepare the way of the Lord.”
